I have a great method! I take BABY SHAMPOO and put it on my hand then swirl the brush in my hand untill it apears clean. then i rinse it off making sure not to get any water on the metal part and then I lie them flat to dry. This works great and you can get the travel sized baby shampoo bottles since they're cheaper! (: hope I helped! How to clean cosmetic brushes without expensive brush cleaner?
what you will need:

extra virgin olive oil

paper towel

sponge (or you can use your hand)

shampoo (preferably baby)

washcloth

1. put a squirt of olive oil the the paper towel.

2. wipe you bruses back and forth on the paper towel with the oil. you may need to add more oil when the spot gets too dirty

3. take a sponge (or you palm), apply a dollop shampoo and wet it with luke warm water. squeeze out exsess water. now run the brush back and forth through the soap.

4. rinse the brush out with lukewarm water, being carful not to get water above the metal part, or it will seep in you brush causing it to rust.

5. repeat process with all brushes.

7. lay brushes out on a rag, with the hairs laying off the rag, so just the handel is on the bag.

It may sound crazy with the olive oil and all, but it really deep cleans and conditions your brushes. It's a method that a few makeup artists use. do this once a week. I just did it yesterday and now my brushes are loveley, soft, and clean!!
There are cheap brush cleaners you can buy at places like Target. I'm an advocate of high-end cosmetics, but to me, all brush cleaners are pretty much the same. Just don't over-clean them... look for a brush ';shampoo'; instead of cleaner. It will keep your bristles in place, although some shedding is normal for them.

And never, ever put anything with alcohol on them. They will dry up and be terrible on your skin.
Alot of people use baby shampoo since it's soo gentle. The procces is simple wet the brush squirt a little on your hand swirl the brush into the shampoo then work the soap in and rinse till the water rins clear shape the brush then lay fat to dry with bristles hanging over an edge
i use a gentle cleansing wash like purpose cleanser or cetaphil it really works.

you can use tom's natural care of maine body wash, use warm water, at a low pressure, and rub with your fingers, then lay flat on a towel and let air dry till they are dry. if you have cheap brushes they will not wash up good!
Drugstore brush cleaner is always a good alternative..try target.

A homemade way that works really well is using a little mild baby shampoo.
Baby shampoo works well, or if you don't have any of that you can use any shampoo you have. :)
Use baby shampoo.
soap and water
